discover the fascinating culture around the Silk Road

At 7:30 pm, on Sunday, November the 3rd, rising of the curtain on the impressive show “See you in a thousand years, a journey to discover the fascinating culture around the Silk Road”, staged at the Tuscany Hall in Florence, the only chance to attend the magnificent entirely Chinese show in Tuscany, leading the public through 5000 years of China’s history in an amazing feast of sounds and colours.
The show was organised by the People’s Republic of China State Council Information Office, by the People’s Republic of China Consulate General in Florence, and arrived in Florence thanks to Zhong Art International's cooperation.
Chinese culture has very ancient roots; during its evolution, long invisible “threads” have been weaving a tight bond between East and West, creating the so-called "Silk Road", much more than a commercial route, rather a luminous way, fostering worthy cultural and artistic exchanges between the two worlds.
This show overwhelms the audience with the fascinating Chinese culture and the various expressions of Art developed within this ancient civilization: the singing, dancing and music harmonize perfectly with the magical sound and light effects, while presenting a few of the key characters of the friendship between East and West, telling about the relevant historical events and describing unique territories with their millennial traditions.
Therefore, various historical characters appear on scene: the famous Italian explorer Marco Polo, the Chinese pioneer of the Silk Road Zhang Qian, who actually traced the connecting pathway already around 139 B.C. while on a mission in the Western regions, as well as the great seafarer Zheng He, who is said to have reached the African coasts in the early XV Century, by way of Indochina and India.
Among the dances performed, there is always the worldwide famous choreography “Dance of the thousand arms” based on the Buddha of great compassion, traditionally represented with innumerable hands, and another elaborate dance called “The flying Apsaras”, drawing inspiration from murals and sculptures of the outstanding Mogao Caves, a most important Chinese archaeological site: in the Buddhist Pantheon the “Apsaras” are richly dressed spirits, gracefully twirling long shimmering ribbons, comparable to the western representation of angels.
The “Dance of the Rainbow Dresses” stages the traditional ball held over 1000 years ago at the imperial palace under the Tang dynasty, when a group of court ladies danced in long-sleeved colourful dresses, leading onlookers towards the enchanted world of fairies inside the Moon Palace.
With the “Concert of Bronze Bells and Drums” the audience has the exceptional opportunity of appreciating one of the earliest Chinese forms of music: the bronze bells are in fact the most ancient percussion instrument of the country and in this show they are accompanied by drums together with a choreographed performance of tajiquan, graceful and powerful at the same time.
The artists are also presenting many traditional songs as “The wild Goose”, from the Mongolian minority, “Mo Li Hua” telling about the jasmine flowers, one of the most popular tunes in China, well known all over the world since Giacomo Puccini introduced it in his opera “Turandot” as “Là, sui Monti dell’Est” elaborated for the treble choir. The company will also reinterpret a few famous pieces of the western tradition as “España cañí”, a spanish paso doble, and they will sing a surprising version of “O’ Sole mio” as a tribute to Italy.
“See you again in a thousand years” is a captivating enchanted journey to the discovery of the ancient Chinese culture, where music, dancing, colours and sounds merge into an evocative crescendo, leaving audiences spellbound.
